Mic key button troubles

Reece just had his changed last month. For about 2 weeks it has been giving him problems. Leaking, itchy, sometimes red & raw (right under the button) He cries & get irrated when it starts all of this. What can I do to help him?

We wipe up the leaky part with a wash cloth, & then I just leave it on there to sooth the red area. I dont leave it on there too long though. I have used zinc cream, prescribed meds on it, & I just dont know what else to do. Thanks! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

Oh yuck!

Josh's second button has always had this problem too ( jesse's never does). We keep a split sponge gauze under the button to soak up the leakage. Change the pad often. Put stomahesive powder (from the gi nurse) around the hole. That usually helps us.

Its not pretty when it leaks. We haven't had anyone tell us why yet.

When was the last time he was sized for a g-tube? One time, when I had my g-tube and suddenly had problems with it leaking... they found out that I just needed a bigger size.

He has a clinic appt tomorrow, I will bring up getting sized again. Plus I will ask about the stoma powder, so I can I have it on hand. Thanks guys!

My son also has a mickey and the doc actually gave us calmoseptine it is especially used for gtube leakage it is a mixture of zinc and calamine lotion. I use that and I buy 2x2 sterile bandages that I cut a x in and put it around the button.Hope this works for ya.
