Brad - the Avent is about what you say: a bowl with a lid. The useful extra is there is a perforated plate that sits in the bowl; the water goes below the plate and nebs on top; also the lid snaps on tightly which helps when moving it hot from microwave to counter.

I use the avent sterilizer; after I have hand washed the neb parts in hot soapy water I then transfer to a vinegar/water solution, then into the sterilizer. Works great!!! I highly recommend it to the germ o phobes like me... haha!
