I get migraines. I usually do what you say your doing now....dark, quiet room, ice packs, advil (or if serious enough a narcotic, but I try not to use them). But one thing I have is a mouth piece or retainer from my dentist. It fits in the top of my mouth and it basically is designed to "push" on my teeth to relieve the tension pressure in my head caused by the tighting of the muscles due to the migraine. It is also thick enough to keep me from bitting down and gritting my teeth from the pain, which results in jaw pain. It was prescribed to me by a neurologist, my dentist made it. It really helps me, specially if I need it during the night while I sleep.
