mild pain on lower right abdominal area

The general test for appendicitis is "rebound pain." Lay down, push on the lower right quandrant, let up quickly. If the pain is worst after you let up, get thee to a doc ASAP.

However, I didn't have the rebound pain until 4 hours before they rushed me into surgery. I was "eh" (light pain) on Friday, miserable on Saturday (Oh, I have a stomach bug, it'll pass), and nearly incapacitated by Sunday night. Urgent care didn't know what was wrong with me... as I didn't present with the rebound pain. After about two hours of misery in urgent care, they checked for rebound pain again... and sent me straight to the ER when I about flew off the table. Magic happy drugs and a CT scan later, I was in the OR.

Lesson learned: Appendicitis sucks.

Most important lesson: If it doesn't seem right, get it looked at! CFers have so many more gut problems, and none of them are good.

I've had that a few times, and it has always turned out to be a bowel obstruction.

Did you have meconium ileus as a baby or any surgery on your intestines? That place you're describing as to the source of the pain is where the small intestine is attached. It's common for CFers who've had ileostomies to have pain there from time to time.

If there's even a possibility of it being a bowel obstruction, don't mess around! Let your doctor know so he can prescribe some GoLytely to get things moving.

One weird thing I've noticed when I get obstructed is that (and believe me, this is WEIRD) my BMs smell like blueberries.

wow u sound exactly like me. i had a pain just like that a while ago and same thing-it was consistent pain but mild to moderate and i just don't trust my pain tolerance bc i think its pretty high. but i hate making issues out of nothing.
my pain coincided with starting a new med-pipercillin.
i also had severe crazy pain early on in my pregnancy in that same spot-i went to the er and they thought it was a miscarriage at first bc the pain was awful. it turned out to be in intestines-like someone said above, thats where your large intestine curves. i have had troubles there in the past so when i get that pain i assume its the curve of my intestine.
i get that pain also during my period, i think i have a strong hormone/bowel connection. i noticed that through pregnancy, birth and now w my cycles. hormones can affect your gi tract very much.
i'd keep an eye on it and try to note when the pain comes on and when it goes away. trust your gut (no pun intended) and if you feel something is wrong, go to the doc asap.
