Minnesota Vest protocol vs standard vest protocol

So I finally looked into the Minnesota way of doing vest airway clearance. We had always just done one setting and then pause and cough. I started doing the Minnesota way, following their way for adjusting htz and pressure. The downside is it makes my daughter really itchy!. Is there benefit noted from Minnesota vs Standard?

This is what I followed for those interested. I felt really confused at first but I think I am getting it.

I go to the Minneapolis hospital and have always done their settings.....I find that it makes me cough a bit more, which is always a good thing.

Emily definitely started coughing more using Minnesota protocol! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Hopefully your dd will get used to the 'itchy' feeling soon- maybe experiment with what kind of shirt she wears underneath to see if something feels better? When Emily was just in the hospital I had to have my dh bring her own vest jacket in since the black hospital one felt 'itchy' and 'yucky' (and several other adjectives, lol) for her after a year of using her nice soft one and she had trouble tolerating the frequencies she's completely used to at home.

I've always done this vest technique. My family finds it a little funny, in fact, that the information for this type is on the Cincinnati Children's site, and when I was hospitalized there several years ago and used huffs between vest rounds, they were completely shocked and had never seen it done before. haha

I had the "itchy" problem too. At first I was given a different size vest because the one I had would ride up and the trim would rub on my skin. I still occasionally get the red marks and itches. It usually helps if I wear a shirt with a neckline that comes all the way to my neck, and at least short sleeves. Plus sitting up straight helps the vest stay in place.
