Minute Clinic--guess we can't go there any more

I think the PCP is the way to go here, BUT you really need to consider what you will do if they will put her on antibiotics. CF kids usually need a much longer course of abx to kill the bugs that get them. I'm most concerned about the bad cough....if it is from a CF exacerbation and she gets 10 days of abx X, it may just knock the numbers low enough to stop her from coughing but they will still be there and now get the chance to grow resistant to that antibiotic and come back later with a vengeance.

Her PCP is pretty good and I don't think we will have an issue. We are fairly new patients of hers, DD has only seen her twice. I see her as well. Her needing more/longer doses of antibiotics is a real possibility. We have had issues with that in the past, just thinking that they didn't "work" for her but maybe it's because she just needed them longer. She is feeling somewhat better. We will see how things are tomorrow and go from there. Thanks everyone.

If it is respiratory related, I call the CF clinic. If it is GI related, I call the CF clinic or the liver clinic. If it is liver related, I call the liver clinic. If it is anything else, I call the PCP. There are times we go ages without seeing the PCP simply because there isn't anything that *isn't* in the jurisdiction of the CF clinic most of the time.

When he's complained of leg pain, or headaches, or need referrals, I call his PCP. I take him for an annual check-up to keep his PCP in the loop and watching the situation for us.

Oops, got distracted. I meant to also say that if you are concerned it's strep, your PCP can fit sick patients in for same day usually, can run a rapid strep and can call and consult with the CF doctor if there are any concerns about treatment.
