Glad some people have had positive results but overall it appears that studies are indicating that it's not useful for increasing fat absorption.

Among them:
Failure of taurine to improve fat absorption in cystic fibrosis
Journal Journal of Inherited Metabolic Disease
G. N. Thompson
Department of Chemical Pathology, Adelaide Children's Hospital, North Adelaide, South Australia

Effect of taurine supplementation on fat and energy absorption in cystic fibrosis.
M De Curtis, F Santamaria, P Ercolini, L Vittoria, G De Ritis, V Garofalo, and F Ciccimarra
Department of Paediatrics, 2nd School of Medicine, University of Naples, Italy.

Taurine supplementation, fat absorption, and growth in cystic fibrosis.
Thompson, G. N., Robb, T. A., Davidson, G. P.
Author Affiliation: Nutrition Research Group, Clinical Research Centre, Watford Road, Harrow HA1 3UJ, UK.
Document Title: Journal of Pediatrics

This one equivocates on whether or not it increased vitamin absorption, etc. but argued that children had a decrease in abdominal pain and also more consistent stools.
Taurine decreases fecal fatty acid and sterol excretion in cystic fibrosis: a randomized double-blind trial
Smith, Lesley J., Lacaille, Florence, Lepage, Guy, Ronco, Nancy, Lamarre, andre, Roy, Claude C.
Publisher: American Medical Association
Publication Name: American Journal of Diseases of Children
Subject: Health
ISSN: 0002-922X
Year: 1991

There were multiple studies. Some were short term (a handful of days, some longer term at a couple of months). The last study was the only one I could find that was positive but I also didn't do an exhaustive search. It does seem like there might be new research into taurine, the liver, and cf and maybe the possibility of some effect of taurine on other things in the cf body but nothing that seems to be published yet. It seems like a lot of these if they are actually happening will happen out of the US.

I'd say if it helps you and you aren't drinking the energy drinks to get it there's no reason to discontinue it. It's more a warning that taurine might be a waste of meny. One of the studies found that those on the placebo found similar improvements to those taking taurine. But regardless if it makes you feel better, gain weight, etc. for whatever reason (physiological or psychological) go for it. It doesn't seem to show any harm from it in any of the studies.
