Japan has the social medical insurance system, with only two methods of coverage. One is company sponsored coverage, and the other is when the individual pays out of their own pocket for the monthly premium because they are self-employed or something (like unemployed!).
It'd be great to claim expenses for traveling to the doc's, but how much does it cost to walk there? The doc's office is near home, so I'm passing it everyday on my way to work!
As far as hospitalization and such, that's when we need extra insurance policies, and I already have about three of them. I also get a tax break from those policies, but am not sure how much of a tax break so I don't want to add "more" policies, it might be a waste of money for redundant insurance policies.
Though I was told that if I needed to use oxygen during the daytime, carrying one of those big tanks and such, that would be covered by insurance.
