Yesterday was our routine clinic appointment. Until now my 3 year old son has been at a good weight, and gaining nicely but we've had a set back and he hasn't gained according to the magic graph that rules all our lives. Like many of our kids with cf he's not a great eater. What are some recipes that have been a hit with your toddlers? Any good links to packing on the fat/calorie recipes?

His CF team and I are confident that I'm doing all the right things to set up good eating habits (it would have been great if they put that in writing after grilling me). I just need more calorie and fat rich food ideas.

Also, they have added Zantac to our list of drugs. The liquid is gross tasting. How do you hide the gross tastes of medications. My son does not yet swallow pills.

I make everything from scratch and I supplement coconut milk for everything that calls for milk. Very healthy and lots more calories and fat.
I am working on getting lots of info on my blog, but it is slow going<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

</a>
Also, the more salt you add, the more butter/fat you can add. They seem to even each other out, so neither taste is overwhelming.

I would suggest working on the pill taking stuff!!! It is so awesome to not have to deal with applesauce anymore. Caleb has been taking pills since he was around 10 months. We started out putting the whole pills in applesauce and giving them to him that way. Then slowly encouraged him to swallow them. He does have a big brother with CF though, so he wanted to be like him.

blessings,
missa

Have you supplemented with things such as adding cream to his whole milk or olive oil to his casseroles, pasta, spagettios, soup. He gets carnation instant breakfast made with whole milk and cream.

DS is more of a snacker -- I keep snacks in the car so he can eat on the short drive home. He likes peanuts and sunflower seeds. He recently discovered salt and vinegar flavored almonds, which I've had a hard time finding in our area. He likes aged parm cheese, "mouse" (swiss) cheese...

It's hard when they're picky eaters, but once I find something he likes, I usually stick with it. I've mentioned this before but we once took a trip and I packed tiny cans of spagettios, fruit snacks and juice, not caring if he ate it 2-3 times a day, as long as he ate something.
