Jaden still is having trouble with taking his enzymes. Does anyone know if it is ok to mix it with skim milk and hersheys chocolate? Both have zero fat and he drinks it right down!

I was always told to mix it with fruit, because it works better with something acidic. The doctor told me specifically not to mix it with milk, but if fruit isn't working for you, maybe they'll let you use juice??

DS HATED applesauce so we used either baby bananas or pears. In a pinch I've used grape jelly, ketchup and chocolate syrup. I've seen what enzymes do in milk/dairy -- they break down fairly easily, so even without the fat, I'd be hesitant to use even skim milk.

All you need is a tiny amount of fruit, don't need a whole bowl or a ton of liquid, just a teeny amount to get them to stick to the spoon to get them in the mouth.

On a side note, do you think he's old enough to take pills instead? Might be easier..

My son recently started to not want to take enzymes. I had to switch to a strawberry flavored applesauce and I distract him with a favorite toy. I was told the same thing as SadiesMom, that they work better in something acidic. So if there is a certain fruit he favors I'd just try that. We have used pears and pineapple banana before with Kaleb. He seems to get tired of applesauce, which I probably would too. For whatever reason if my son has something in his hand and is playing, distracted, he takes his enzymes right away just fine. He loves cars so we make car noises and drive them back and forth..sneaking in enzymes as we can lol We might look crazy in a restaurant but hey anything to get enzymes down him lol I hope you can find the answer and what works for you!

You are not supposed to give enzymes in anything like milk. Also, no bananas. I always made my son's applesauce. He is 10 months old now and still uses it. You can switch up though, and maybe try pears. Some vegetables are okay too. Good luck!

We have been advised that enzymes can be mixed with anything - provided they are consumed immediately. The enteric coating is affected if they sit in milk, yogurt, bananas, etc. Applesauce is usually advised...but it doesn't matter if the enzymes are consumed immediately upon mixing with another substance. Consider the fact that individuals who are beyond the "applesauce" stage (we'll get there eventually!!) don't mix their enzymes with anything. Consuming the enzymes immediately upon mixing is equivalent to consuming a food item preceding or following swallowing a capsule of enzymes.

I guess I will stop the chocolate skim milk, he seems to not mind it too much in juice - Will absolutely not take them in any kind of sauce and now I'm a bit concerned because even in the juice it takes him sometimes 20 minutes to get them down. He is only 2 so I don't think there is a way we could teach him to swallow the pill yet. even when we can sneak it in his juice - he gags and spats - it just seems like there has to be a better way. I assume if he does not gain any more weight by his next apt they will probably put an IV in him?
