Morning Sickness

I don't have CF, so my weight loss definitely isn't as big of a problem as if would be for someone who started out underweight. However, the last week I have had very severe nausea at night (I get my morning sickness backwards). I can barely force myself to drink water in the evening. As a result, I'm not getting anywhere near enough calories from my morning and afternoon eating (including a snack). I have lost seven pounds in five days. I know that it is normal to lose as much as ten pounds in the first trimester, but this seems so quick.

Anyone have suggestions? I am trying to add more calories to my earlier meals (I started putting soy creamer on my oatmeal in the morning, covering my apple snack with peanut butter, etc). I know this should pass soon (I am at 11 weeks), but it scares me to lose weight this quickly while the baby is getting his/her nutrients from me.

Hi,
I have heard that trying to eat multiple little meals during the day can be helpful... Good adding those calories... I would try to eat whatever appeals to you... Trying to make up the fluid intake during those hours that you are not nauseated.

Good luck!!!

Oh how I hated those days of morning sickness! I just remember munching on saltine crackers a lot and just trying to put whatever food in my mouth sounded good to me that I could stomach. Hang in there, hopefully it won't linger too much longer.

Try eating every 2 hours at times that you feel better. Peanut butter is a great choice, you can even do PB sandwiches for breakfast. Egg and cheese sandwiches are good too and high calorie/protein. If you wake in the night to pee try eating a small snack then too. I used to eat string cheese or ice cream in the middle of the night.
