Moving G-tube site

Hi everyone,
I am interested in getting advice from people who have had to move a stoma site for a G-tube. My child is 5 years old now and when she got her G-tube at age 20 months it was in the right place, but as she has grown it is up under her ribs now. The rubbing there in the ribs is causing discomfort, and it has been suggested we relocate the stoma. Has anyone had this before and is it common to have to change the stoma location because of a lengthening torso? How was the relocation surgery if you have had it done?
Thanks for any help,
Michelle

I had a g-tube from when I was about 12 until I was 17. I got so sick of it in highschool I stopped using it, and I guess my body changed as I put on weight and kept it on. I remember the surgery back when I had it as I was semi awake when they did it. I remember there being a pop and it was in, they used a scope of some sorts to put it in. Removal is easy as they do it outside the body. Once the old one is removed then the new one can be put in easily I would think. The old hole will just close up on its own. I didn't have any stitches. If there is some granulation that will just dry up and form a small scab and fall off.
