Given the population demographics in Hawaii, there likely will never be a large enough cystic fibrosis population to meet criteria required for an accredited cystic fibrosis center in Hawaii. However I am a board certified pediatric pulmonologist that just moved back home to Honolulu and am able to care for cystic fibrosis patients. I trained at a accredited CF center (UCSF) and was assistant director of the CF program in Las Vegas. Any one with questions about potentially moving to Hawaii with CF are more than welcome to call our office (808-589-5864) for more information.

I know there is Kaiser in Hawaii on Maui. I guess it would depend on what Island you go too. I have been told that CF care in Hawaii is NOT good for anyone who has a lot of needs or is in a severe condition because there isn't a CF clinic.
I am planning to move to Maui at some point in the next 24 months and I follow a gentlemen Rod Spadinger's blog; http://ourcfmattershawaii.com/2011/02/26/welcome.aspx and I think he would be a good person to speak to about such things. Also there is a foundation there Mauli Ola http://www.mauliola.org/ you might look into as well. That has nothing to do with CF Medical care but more about helping CF patients find better health through exercise (surfing!)
My reason for moving is plain and simple: Salty air and heat. Dr.'s are continually feeding us salt through nebulizers so why not get it in it's natural form!!! I lived in jamaica for a while and I've traveled to Maui multiple times and I feel AMAZING when I am in the weather conditions. I was told KONA is not a great place because you are too close to the volcano. I personally feel like living in a big city (which I have most of my life) is detrimental to my health! I have been getting worse as the pollution gets worse. When I am in hot salty climates my body thrives and CF seems to just disappear all together!! But that's me.
Sounds like Dr. Wu may be a good option for you. I think I should reach out to him as well!

TheamazingBD, I seem to do well in hot salty climates too.
Even if I am ill when we leave on a trip toward the caribbean, my lungs seem better by the time we return to SW Virginia. We have considered moving...but...hard to leave family.
