Yea Bactrim does ***** for me these days. It used to work...but I used it too much.

At least I can narrow it down, and I know I am not alone. Thanks for responding Jodi!

MRSA: Once he shows up, he never leaves. I got MRSA last summer during a sinus surgery. I worked it's way into my lungs and is now a pain in the b___. You get the idea. It has diminished symptomatically a couple times but lead to my 2 weeks in the hospital in October. I have tested positive 2 more times in my sinuses after extensive Zyvox and other treatment. My doc said it probably will never go away, just flair up now and again.

I had MRSA in my lungs before transplant along with Psuedo. I was having some sinus issues post transplant - the horrendous headaches and some small fevers soooo they sent me to an ENT that took crud out of my sinuses and sent them away for a culture and sure enough I culture Psuedo and MRSA in my sinuses. He started me on an antibiotic sinus rinse - Gentamycin Sinus Rinse. It is NOT as potent as the IV form. I put 20 ml in each nostril twice a day and that along with regular saline sinus rinses twice a day have worked wonders for my sinuses and has helped keep my lungs clear and free of culturing ANY bacteria in any of the bronchs I have had and cultures they have taken.

I would suggest maybe talking to an ENT or your CF doc and see if they can maybe prescribe you something like that - the antibiotic sinus rinse meaning. I can get you the information from the pharmacy I use (it is mail order and unfortunately they do NOT file secondary insurance) but they would know how to fix the med and such if your doc was unsure how to write a script for it. I am not saying that to be snide I just know that I have not come across another doc that prescribes this and my normal CF pharmacy that is local didn't even know how to fix it .. they had to look it up.

Also if you can not do the abx sinus rinse I would at least try starting the saline sinus rinse. I have to use 2 cups worth basically in the morning and at night. I use two (2) rinse solution packets each morning and night and that is the only way they really work for me. Just fidget with them and see what works best for you. I love them now that I have been doing them for a while. They can be kind of gross but that crap that comes out of my nose is amazing - and that is that much less that can possibly creep into my lungs ... so yay! for that.
