Mucinex to help conceive!

This is a question for all the CF women who took Mucinex to help conceive...
When did you start taking it? (ie. the week before you ovulated?)
How long did you take it? Did you have any side effects because of it?
I tried taking it a couple of days before I ovulated but I noticed dry blood in my mucus when I took it... I'm trying to decide if the benefits outweigh the blood. 
I have been TTCing for 6 months now (charting & using OPKs) & nothing is happening... I'm getting discouraged!

Hey there! I used Robitussin not Mucinex, but I was told to take it 5 days before ovulation and then i continued 3 days after (just in case)...that seemed to work for me! I took it about twice a day and did not have any side effects. I also read to get the one that has an active ingredient of guaifenesin. My husband and i tried for a little over a year and finally when i used Robitussin and a digital ovulation kit it worked! Good luck to you and dont lose hope <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I will just echo what Becca said. a week before ovulation should be plenty. I took Mucinex but I also did a lot of other supplements and got pregnant twice in 3 cycles (1 was a miscarriage). Don't forget about PreSeed.

Caroline - what other supplements? I have been using PreSeed for 2 months now! I'm really hoping the guaifenesin works this time around!

I've been emailing my doctor about this and she said it was fine to take but didn't specify how often I could take it and is now out of the country for 3 weeks (of course!). Did you all consult your docs before starting the guaifensein? I think I will be fine at least taking it once a day....I hope. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

No i didn't consult my docs. They really prefer if I consult my OB on that stuff. But honestly, my OB doesn't know all that much about CF, so who knows what kind of ordeal that would be... I agree with your one a day method. I might take it twice a day once the OPK is positive...

Sorry I forgot to respond! I also took Vitex and B6.

I did not consult any of my doctors before taking OTC supplements. I actually know of some people with CF that use Mucinex (or generic forms) as part of their daily regime. And the other things I took are not known to cause complications with medications or other supplements.
