You'll have to learn to be a label reader. The Mucinex-D has an added ingredient (sudafed, I think). There may also be a Mucinex for colds that contains an antihistamine -- steer clear of that or at least be aware that it will dry you out. I take the brand-name Mucinex 600 mg extended relief tablets 2x day. It helps a lot!!

I take it when I have a cold or am working on getting something up that is problematic. I also take the 600mg extended release and drink a TON of water.

I just took my first NAC dose tonight.......so no comment there..yet.

My kids take 600 mg twice a day. Mucinex is time-released and guaifenesin is not. Mucinex is much more expensive but you have to take guaifenesin more often.

BJs has a 60 pill bottle of for $25. The normal 20 pill bottle at CVS is $11.

It was my idea to start the mucinex after reading about it here. The doctor didn't seem to have a problem with it so we kept it up. They also do pulmozyme.

I take mucinex on occassion when I feel a cold coming on and feel it has helped. One thing to keep in mind is to get the one that is only a cough EXPECTORANT (blue box) and not the one that also has a cough suppressant in it.
