i was reading through the old mucinex posts but it has been several months so i thought i'd ask again about who is using it, during what times (everyday or only for exacerbations) and how much you take?

also: when i was younger my dr. prescribed guaifenesin to me for when i was sick and coughing a lot. i seem to remember it really helping me but when my bottle ran out i think my new doctor at the time didn't think much of giving it to me. in the store they sell expectorant OR expectorant/suppressant varieties. the one i took as a kid seemed to make me cough less, yet i know i have always been told to stay away from suppressants. does the expectorant make you cough less because your coughs are more productive??

thanks!

I took it for the first time Sat. night - within 30 min. I had a tight, painful right upper lobe (my trouble lobe) I'm interested to hear if anyone is a big believer in it.

loulou,

were you using the plain expectorant? sounds like you are describing how the suppressant one might have effected you?

Laura,

I've used this in the past when trying to conceive for obvious reasons (used daily for about a week or so). It did seem to thin out my cough. I mentioned it to my doc and he wasn't as excited as me. He said, "well, it won't hurt you..." with that look docs get when you're doing something frivolous. Either way, I felt I coughed up more gunk.

I took the non-supressant one. I also recently went to Walgreens and bought their brand (I'm sure just as good). So, I will use it if trying to conceive again or if feeling gunky.... Even if it is just in my head, I feel it helps.

Good luck-

Courtney's doc prescribed her Mucinex D when she was in the hospital this past February. I didn't see much of a difference when she took it.

Also, I thought guaifenesin was just a fancy prescription term for OTC Robitussin. Is this right?
