Well Damien and I just got home from the hospital here in Oaklahoma. Dr Royall told us during our stay Damiens culture result said muciod pseudo. Now I know because of his last hospital visit before our move he had a bronchscopy and we only had staph. I was under the impression you would have non muciod first then develop into muciod. Iam wrong I guess. is it common to have muciod pseudo at just 3 years. What can anyone tell me about this? We are so much happier and alot less stressed living 8 miles from the hospital and clinic than 500 round trip thats for sure. We like clinic, it takes a little getting used to the change but just like Arizona there were things I liked and disliked.I know Damien liked being able to have his big brother come to visit. I really love the fact that the O.U. childrens hospital let his brother stay the night with usthat is something they never allowed in Pheonix.Iam glad I made the move the family support helps so much and the fact my older child was close and with family makes it easier on the heart!

Hi Damiensmom,

Well i was told that there are 9 different types of strains of pseudo. They can lurk on kitchen/bathroom taps, toilets, in the soil of plants, in drains, etc.
But at any stage in a c.fers life (no matter how young or old they are) we're still prone to picking up certain strains of pseudo.
Unfortunately this is a tricky one to solve. I have had this strain for quite sometime and I have no idea where I picked this up from.
Sorry if this is not helpful.

Hi Aria,

First of all, I was reading your signature and noticed your oldest son's name is Canyon. Very cool name...never heard that before!

I am sorry you have had a PA culture. PA is scary enought the first time without hearing that it is mucoid. I can tell you from my experience that my son who is now 10 has grown PA on and off since he was 12 months old. Until 18 months ago, his PA has been very sporadic,,,years between cultures. Only in the past year and a half has it colonized. The first couple of times a person cultures PA, it is the easiest to eradicate. So, with the proper meds, it is very possible that they can clear it out and it won't show up again for a very long time.

Andrew grew mucoid for the first time a couple of months ago. He just finished a round of TOBI and Cipro and hopefully at his next visit we will find it has been eradicated. I was very worried when clinic told me it was mucoid, but then after talking to the nurse, understood that it is very normal, and can be eradicated, just like smooth PA. The problems arise when the bugs start to build resistances to different antibiotics. Your clinic should be able to tell you what showed up on the sensitivies, meaning what medications the bacteria will respond to.

So, to make a long story short, I've decided I am going to stop worrying so much about what Andrew is culturing, and focus more on what is available to treat it. When he becomes resistant to everything, then I'll worry. I'll bet there are many abx that his pa will show sensitivy to. Good luck and let us know how he does!
