About 17 years, minus a year and a half a few years ago when Aztreonam temporarily got rid of or made almost nonexistent my PA. (It didn't show in cultures, anyway.)

I first cultured PA when I was about 14. It was mucoid for the firt time about 3 years ago so I guess that almost fits the 9 year thing. BUT Since I started taking Azithromycin it changed back to non-mucoid and has not shown up again since, even when unwell.

no it doesnt always take nine years..... thats why i said "approximatley". <div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote><i>Originally posted by: <b>TestifyToLove</b></i>

Well, it obviously doesn't always take 9 years from non-mucoid to mucoid. M is only 7. Its not remotely possible that he's had PA for 9 years. Its possible that he had the PA before it was found in culture 4 years ago. But, He was bronch'd 5-6 years ago and it was not there at that point. It was also not there when he spent 2ish months in the hospital 4 years ago for a bowel obstruction gone wrong that nearly cost him his life. He first cultured it months after that hospital stay and I still question whether it was a nosacomil infection like the MSSA that went septic in his port and nearly killed him.</end quote></div>

Except in our case, it didn't take approximately 9 years either. It took 2.5 years, and we have every reason to believe his cultures were accurate enough to say he had no PA within a year of it first showing up. He first cultured PA spring of 2006. It showed mucoid 11/08. That's 2.5 years and not even remotely close to 9 years, not even approximately 9 years.

Not being argumentative, just pointing out that our experence with PA hasn't even been anywhere in the ballpark to what you've been told. And, while they did nothing to halt the PA sufficiently until he came here 18 months ago, they did culture him and put him on Tobi and that was 2.5-3 years before he showed that it has now gone mucoid, and its resistent to all but Timentin in our case.
