Mucus question

Typically after a cold how long does it take for you or your child to get rid of the leftover gunk? Seems like it becoming more frequent occurance for us. My daughter had a cold over Easter weekend, with a slight temp at first, really stuffy nose and congested head cold. It did not seem to settle in the chest, which it sometimes does. We are so good about doing treatments and everything.
So, took a while for her nose to dry up; that's gone, she still has gunk in her throat she needs to clear often, we doubled up on her usual Bactrim(trying to avoid the big guns). She's had a ton of exersize this week; hiking twice, softball practice etc. Really good energy for her. I am giving her the weekend and checking in with her doc on Monday if its not gone....Maybe she needs a culture again? I know this is par for the course.
I may ask about Mucinex at her next clinic appointment to see if that helps..She is able to clear the gunk for the most part; but sometimes it doesn't move easily. Maybe the Mucinex will help it ease up for her?

Thoughts?

Maybe there's an allergy component. The pollen count has been really high lately (yesterday it was 11.20/12 here).

Had to take her to the doc, PFT's slightly down and she was wheezy. Back on prednisone <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> and waiting for culture report before changing much of anything else.

I always have mucus. It is more severe in the AM but some all day long. Worse if pollen count is high but then my lungs get cleaned out.

I'm like Bill and always have mucus no matter if I had an "active" infection or not. That was until Kalydeco and I've stopped producing. But after a round of antibiotics and such, I still coughed green stuff up and would clear my throat all the time. Sorry...
