Mucus-y when you talk

OK, so I couldn't think of a better name for this post...

Here's my question:

I've noticed lately that if I go quite awhile without talking and then yell "yay!!!!" at my doggies to get them excited about something, it seems mucus gets trapped in my throat and I MUST clear my throat to breath or continue talking. I find this actually happens a lot througout the day... like if the phone rings and I say "hello", etc...

Does this happen to anyone else? Does anyone know WHY this happens? Is it a bad sign that I'm getting sick? Or, is it a good thing, like the mucus is thinner and is coming to the "surface" easier? Just curious.

It kinda pisses me off, cause it seems like I'm always clearing my throat when I talk or play around with my doggies and yell and scream a lot.

Just wonderin',

I know this feeling well. I happens to me whenever i talk. Im always nervous answering my professor's questions in class because i know if i try to speak most likely i will just croak. I try to clear my throat before i open my mouth to speak always to avoid embarassement. I think its just another one of those unfortunate, embarassing side effects of cf!

It happens to me, but not all the time. I go thru long period of not having it & dont realize its gone until it comes back. Its quite annoying when on the telephone etc. When I use to work I was on the phone alot & it was difficult especially when one of my earlier jobs was at an answering service! No real answers for ya!

Yes, it happens to me as well. I feel like I'm always cleaing my throat/coughing so that I can talk normally. It is quite annoying but those that know me have gotten used to it. I think it has actually slacked off just a bit since starting hypertonic saline, but it is still noticeable throughout the day.

I get that a lot, too. Sometimes i I know I'm gonna have to speak, I'll test my voice to make sure it is working, and then when I speak it will happen anyway. =-) Not much we can do.

Theres a reason for it....... The cilia in the throat is constantly moving things upward so you can get rid of whatever is there. ( my Doctor told me this years ago when i asked him this same question) I notice sometimes its more annoying, than other times. Sometimes i dont have anything there, and sometimes it seems like it never stops. I guess it all has to do with how much crap is in our lungs and how well the cilia are working.

i am constantly clearing my throat. it's annoying. happens a lot when i am exercising. other than that, it does seem to get better and worse at times. i don't think it's a sign of getting sick, at least for me, but it may be a sign i need to do more airway clearance. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif" border="0">
