Mucus

Hi all,

I am having trouble getting all my mucus out of my lungs, I have been having pain in my lungs, which started a week and a half ago, and a few days ago I started to cough up mucus, but there is still some there, becasue I still have a bit of pain and a bit of fatigue. I was wondering how to get it up? I do my excercises regulary, but they could be better (I don't have a vest, they are very expensive here in Spain). I am on oral antibiotics, but a different label than normal, I started on this one, to not get immune to the other one, because I was on it not that long ago.

Does anyone have any advise on how to get the mucus up? Anything I can take to loosen it?

Any response will be welcomed.

Many thanks.

oye...I wrote a long reply and accidentally deleted it lol.

Are you on hypertonic saline? That helps me get a lot of mucus out. Mucinex also helps (guifennisen - sp?)...might be marketed under a different brand/name in Spain, idk.

If you are well enough to exercise, running really helps me clear my lungs. I've recently found that sprinting/fast runs are more effective at getting stuff up than longer/slower runs.

Just something to think about <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

search for airway clearance techniques. Vest is the most expensive, cpt works, along with autogenic drainage & a bunch of cheaper devices out there that should be covered by insurance.
Coughing, huffing and then the skill of bringing it up is hard to describe. But I think your concern is that you're not getting it all out, which is common. I've got plenty of mucus that is always in my lungs and near impossible to get out. You just get out what you can.
All the other normal cf meds can help too. The saline, pulmozyme, bronchodialators etc.
