Hi all,

I have been coughing up a lot of mucus for the last weeks. I caught a cold about 3 weeks ago, and have still not got ridd of the mucus that went with it. At first it came out through the nose and the mouth, a lot. And now it's mostly throught the mouth, it's not as much as in the begining, but still it's alot. It's coming up nicely, mostly becasue of the saline, which helps so much.

I have been on antibiotics for about 4 weeks, I started becasue I felt a bit ill, fatgued -this was before I caught the cold.

The antibiotics heldped, I feel stronger now, but still have this mucus.

My doctor suggested I switched antibiotics so now I am on Gobemedicina, where before I was on Actria.

So any suggestion to why I can't get ridd of the mucus? Anyone has this? I hope switching antibiotics will help.

Any input appreciated.

Thanks

Gunhild

Cardio, cardio, cardio! When I go on a 50 minute run 3 to 4 times a week my mucus level is greatly reduced. Why? Because when I am running up those hills it just forces the mucus out. The next day I am always noticably cleared out. On days when I skip the run I am more congested. The combination of sweating and coughing is an incredible therapy. (I also do inhaled pulmozyme too) I also recommend surfing in the ocean--the salt water is an incredible "natural" hypertonic saline I plan on doing a ton of surfing over the holiday season (I live in California)

I have already invited people to join the salt therapy community when I read this post. Clearing the airways is just what the salt therapy is made for. This is one of the effects which was really proven. To be away from commerce I created the free community http://www.facebook.com/pages/...herapy/150265235027166

I will agree with the post on exercise. The first thing that enters my mind now whenever I have a day or two where it just seems like the mucus production is in full swing is that I need to go running. I know it'll knock all the junk loose so I can get it out and be done with it. Do you take Mucinex (guafenisin) at all? It's a mucus thinner.

I just returned from a trip to India to among other things specifically look into Ayurvedic medicine with regards to mucous production and diet. I spent alot of time with two Ayurvedic doctors in their clinic and asked many questions. Its far too indepth to go into here however in brief they believe we all have differing body type make ups "Doshas" and according to our unique body type certain foods tend to react differently with certain dosha makeups. They also have mucous cleansing herbal powders and liquids which i took and they absolutely worked for me. I am still wrapping my head around it all but nutrition has been a big part of my turn around and i'm thinking more effort and time spent understanding why the excess mucous is firstly made would make a hell of a lot more sense to me. That said i daily clear my chest using a pep mask and hypertonic saline which i cottoned onto many years ago and was one of the Aussie beach dudes that pioneered the study. There is a difference between the thick congealed kinda phlegm and the thinner clearish slimy mucous, but thats another story apparently!! BANG Blacky

My daughter and I both have had this nagging cough for a month now-its not getting worse, its just irritating and not getting better.
I am so DONE with it. The past 3 days I've upped my chest pt to 3x a day. (I usually do 2) Finally I'm feeling so much better!
Its really hard for me to do 3 therapies a day, but its really paying off. Maybe you could try that. If it helps, better than needing more abx, ivs or worse.
