Hello everyone!!

I have already posted this question to Steve and havent heard back from him. I posted it a second time just in case he missed the first.

If any of my other children have CF is it Common for them to have the same mutation as my son that has been diagnosed? And when they test my niece should they test for that same mutation?

Thanks, Tina

PS. How can I put a picture on here without the HTML code showing????

If your other children have any mutations they would have to be the same as your son UNLESS they have different Dads.

IF that was the case then they would definitely have the mutation that you carrier in common, but the other could be different.

This is presuming they have CF. They could have both (there fore have CF, be a carrier from one (you would have to know the parents mutation to know which one) of you OR being totally free & clear.

Hi Tina,
Mel is correct, two or more children with the same two parents would have the same mutations. UNLESS....one of the parents actually has CF. For instance, if Dad was a carrier and Mom unknowingly had both mutations and had CF, then Dad would only have one mutation to pass on, where mom would have two.

Thanks,

That is what I thought but I wasnt sure. My brother and I have different dads but the same mom so if his daughter ends up having CF at least we can determine where the gene came from.

Thanks again, Tina
