Many pediatricians still think of CF in ways that don't mirror what we know now about the disease. There are MANY variant ways the disease expresses, and so if there is ANY question, CF should be ruled out. My own daughters both presented atypically. My oldest was diagnosed with asthma for about four years until the decision was made to test for CF when her little sister seemed to have the same pattern of chronic respiratory infections. Both our pediatrician and our specialist said that they didn't think it was CF, but that we should just rule it out. It was CF, but it took the full genetic test (not just a sweat test) to determine that.

If you think it might be CF, then I agree with the others here. Insist on a test. If it is CF, you need to know that. If it is not, you will be able to focus on other possibilities.
