hey guys, i am finally taking the time to tell you about my experience.

well to start out my fiance, dustin, works offshore. he works seven days on seven days off. the last couple months the days that he was away i would go stay with my mom. dustin and i live about 35 miles from my hospital, where as my mom lives about 7 miles.

on tuesday, 10/9, i felt fine. it was a normal day. i went to work, felt big as ever then went to my moms for one more night until dustin got home. at about 2:00 am i woke up, went to the bathroom, got some milk and turned on the tv. that was a little routine i had gotten into when i couldn't sleep. after a few minutes of being up i began noticing pain in my lower back. well i stuck it out a little while, then i noticed some fluid leaking out. i wasn't really sure if it was urine or if my water had broke. so i kept watching tv thinking the pain would go away. well it didn't.

at 4:00 am i couldn't take the pain any longer so i woke up my mom. i told her i think i need to go to the hospital. it took her about 30 minutes to get ready then we headed to the hospital. we got to the hospital about 4:45 am and my mom was a nervous wreck. she couldn't do anything. she was trying to call dustin and she couldn't even calm down to find his work number in her phone. by this time the pain was horrible and my contractions were about 5 minutes apart, if that.

i always thought it was going to hurt in the front like braxton hicks contractions, well i was wrong, it felt like someone was stabbing me in my back.

my mom finally got intouch with dustin and let him know we were at the hospital and i might have the baby. dustin thought ok, her labor is just now starting i should have time to make it. he wasn't scheduled to fly out until about 8:00 am so that would put him at the hospital around 10:30 am. so from 4:30 am until he spoke with me again he was wearing out the soles of his boots from pacing the floors waiting to come home.

when i got into the labor and delivery room the nurse checked me and i was dialated to 2 cm. about 5:30 i was 4 cm. by this time my sister had gotten there and i was about to kill my mom. she wouldn't stay still i told her a million times to sit down. i was hurting alot, it was the most pain i had ever been in. i really wish dustin would have been there to see that.

after i had been at 4 cm for a while i had an epidural. thank god for those things. for all of you that go natural more power to you, there is no way in hell i would ever do that and i thought i had a high tolerance for pain.

after the epidural i was complete. it took my doctor a while to get there. he got there around 7:15, i was actually scheduled to go see him that day and i was going to get checked to see if i had dialted. guess i didn't have to make my appointment that afternoon.

as soon as he got there he said i could start pushing. my mom called dustin and said we're having a baby. my mom and sister were in the room with me, but i made them stand behind my head. they are family and everything, but i didn't want them seeing my stuff.

the whole pregnancy i thought i would start coughing while pushing, but i didn't cough one time. heck pushing a child out was easier than doing a pft after about 20 minutes of pushing morgan entered the world and her daddy missed all of it.

my whole experience was great, i expected it to be so much worse. everyone keeps telling me i better be right by the hospital next time and as soon as i feel back pains to get there. hope i didn't ramble too much, but i had to share.

Thanks for sharing your story! Sorry about the back labor I had terrible back labor w/ Logan. It is usually caused by them being malpositioned in the womb. I felt Logan turn and all of a sudden my back didn't hurt anymore and I had the urge to push. He was born a half hour later. Thank goodness for my doula and her expert techniques or I may have gone for the epidural myself. Next birth will be at home so pain meds won't be an option - but I'll be doing my best to get the baby into optimal position before labor so I don't have to endure back labor again. I agree - it was awful!

WOw, what a quick progress you made. And what a wonderful birth you had (minus the missing Dustin), I am sure thta is very hard on him to konw he missed it too, its the effort on his part that counts.

oh and if it is any cosolation, my mom had me and my next two siblings naturally but had back labor with I believe the 4th and got an epidural, she said it was the worst thing she had EVER experienced and was worse than her other labors put together. So, dont discount yourself. THe fact that you progressed so well after it means it was the right decision for you, if you are in too much pain for your body to handle your progress will continue stalling like that and an epidural can be the right choice.

Labor is stressful but so worth it. I was in labor for 29 hours with Holly but only 12 wih Isabel. Isabel was also back labor so it was worse than the 29 hour labor. Sorry that Dustin couldn't be there to help you through it. I got an epidural with both of my labors but the first one wore off before pushing & the 2nd one malfunctioned & got stuck in my back & had to be surgically removed so I guess I put myself through the pain of that for nothing!!! It's good your mom & sister were able to be there with you & you weren't at home by yourself.
