Hi there firefly...I am a female with CF and CFRD. I am 41 yrs old, the oldest living person with CF in British Columbia Canada.

I too show NO symptoms of CF, even when I get a cold. I have what they call a "MILD" case of CF. I used to do physio up until I was 9 yrs but I stopped because it hurt too much. NOw I do nothing for my CF, ecept take my enzymes when I remember too...shhhh

Short life spans are a thing of the past!! I don't cough, nor do I cough anything up and I have no breathing problems. My CF docs say my lungs and stuff are healthier than a healthy person. I too like ur bf don't go to my appts...UNLESS I AM SICK!!

I am 1 of 3 kids. I have CF, it passed my sister who is 9 yrs younger than me and it went to my brother who is 10 yrs younger. My brother like your BF REFUSED to go to any of his appts and I always freaked out on him and well sadly he payed the price...December 2006 he had a double lung transplant but to this day he is doing amazingly well...

You unfortunatley can NOT make your bf go to his appts...but you can be understanding about why he doesnt want to go and if one day he does go you can be supportive and go with him.

When was he diagnosed with CF? I was 3 yrs young.

I hope his helps and or if you have any questions please feel free to ask me....ANYTHING!

Sorry you are going through this hard time. BTW I think its fantastic that this guy has found a great girl like you that cares so much about him!

Cf can be scary, there's no question about that. The good thing is, there's alot of new treatments coming out for Cf now and in the next few years. With hard work-taking your meds, having checkups, doing physical therapy (a daily chore that we all do) and exercise-your boyfriend can look forward to a good life, and a long life.
The bad news is, Cf is VERY unpredictable. The longer he ignores the FACT that he has this, the worse off he'll be. And the longer a patient with cf denies their condition, the greater they run the risk of having major problems, and shortening their life.
I'm not saying this to scare you. B/c much of the situation is in his hands. I was diagnosed with Cf at 2 years old. The docs told my parents (like many other patients on this site) that I wouldn't live past 12. I'm 27, married, own my own home, and have a wonderful 2 yr old daughter. My Cf is alot of work, and interupts my life at times (among other things), but I consider my life pretty normal and pretty great.
