my brother is sick again

Travis is sick again for the third time this year. This is the first year he's been in the hospital since he was a baby. He's 19 now. He went to the doc on Tuesday and the doc said he had borderline pneumonia and he wanted to go ahead and admit him. But Travis begged the doctor not to, so he put him on oral abx and told him to come back in 2 weeks or come back sooner if he didn't start to be better in a few days. So my mom called the doc today to let him know that Travis wouldn't eat anything and he seems worse, so the doc said to bring him thru the ER and they are gonna put him in. I'm just really worried about him because he doesn't seem to realize the seriousness of having CF. He acts like normal teenage boy and likes to go out on the weekends and drink and party and no telling what else. His FEV1 was at 55% on Tuesday and they were in the high 90s when he went about 3 months ago.

Update--Well, Travis refused to go in the hospital and he's 19 years old, so they couldn't make him. He's doing a little better, but he really should be in the hospital. It really makes me angry because I can't stand to see my brother doing this to himself. But anyways, he's suppose to go back next Tuesday (I also have to go that day) I don't guess there's much they can do though if he refuses to go in.

I feel for you Sara. I know all too well what it is like to have a brother who does not follow treatments as he ought. All you can do is be a good example to him and love him. Hopefully if his FEV1 was in the 90's, just 3 months ago, the IV's will be able to help get them up again. I heart goes out to all the young people having to deal with this disease and trying to be a "normal kid" at the same time. I will be keeping him in prayer along with you. Please keep us updated.

Sara, I will keep your brother in my thoughts and in my prayer book. I'm sorry this is so scarey for you. Hopefully he will see how well he gets with a little effort, and the proper medicines, and CPT. Thanks for telling us about this, so you aren't so alone...

Sara, I'm sorry to hear that Travis is not feeling well... It's hard to get teenagers to do anything , let alone all that has to be done for c/f... I hope and pray that he will realize how important it is to take care of his health... You are a good sister... God Bless you both.. joni
