People who do not believe in god are not "poor lost souls" and it is amazingly offensive to be spoken down to in such a way.

Understand.

I am an atheist. Therefore I do not believe in any god/gods/goddess/goddesses.
I am a well adjusted individual.
I do not believe that praying will magically make my CF-boyfriend better. (He's also an atheist).
We are happy together.
The way to get healthier is to do treatments, see good doctors, and exercise.

Do NOT tell me we need to "find god"
Do NOT tell me we would be happier if we did so.
Do NOT pray for us so that we will find god.
Do NOT tell me I am a "poor lost soul" like you told this other poster.
Do NOT tell me that I should be a Christian. I was. I'm not anymore.
Do NOT try to convert me back "into the fold."

Guess what? I just don't believe what you do. I am not wrong.

Respect the beliefs of others. I respect that you have your faith. I am not telling you that your beliefs are the wrong ones and trying to say that my beliefs trump yours. I just don't believe the same thing you do. I would like it if the atheists on this board were treated with a little bit of respect from the other posters.

Lets keep this thread on the subject of how redeemedchild's brother Kevin is doing. If it turns into a belief debate the thread will be locked. Please keep in mind that everyone is entitled to their own belief's.

Thank you

MY SON IS 21 AND DIAGNOSED WITH CF AT 6 WEEKS. DO NOT HESITATE GETTING INTO A CF CLINIC. THEY ARE SO MUCH MORE AWARE OF SIGNS. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER HEARD OF THE KIND OF DRUGS AND OUT OF IT AND NOT A CF DOCTOR. WHY WASNT HE DIAGNOSED AT AN EARLIER AGE. HAS HE EVER HAD A SWEAT TEST?

I was diagnost at 30 yrs old. My md told me I didn't need a cf clinic too. I did however go to a lung speicalist.
After a year and my lung function continuing to lower, I insisted on going to a cf clinic. To make a long story short when I finally went to see a cf dr. I wasn't even on meds that would help my lung function. I to have bouts of pancreatitis and my cf nutritionist switched my meds a few times until I found one for me. They also have a cf phsycologist, a cf nurse that is on call 24 hrs. you can call anytime and a dr. on call also. It's the best thing I did for myself going to a cf clinic. I wish your brother all the best. I had to fight with my dr to allow me to go. So please don't just accept it that the md says "no". They really don't know about cf. My old dr told me the training they recieve is approx 15 min for cf. One page in their dr book. That is why we are in such bad shape until we get to a real cf dr. who has been seeing cf patients for years. Even if he dont want to undermine his dr. He might as well try a cf dr. He has everything to gain. Eva

Pam,
Don't let the athiest bother you or take it personal. All we can do is pray for that individual. Obviously something has/is happening in their heart or he/she wouldn't be so defensive about it. I believe strongly in God, but don't get so defensive when someone says they are an athiest, I just take it w/ a grain of salt & pray for them. I have a feeling this individual has had a really bad experience w/ church, as I have too. It caused me to stay away from church for years, but I'm finally back now to another church & glad of it.

How is Kevin doing? Has he made it to the CF Clinic yet? I think of him & pray for him often, as I'm sure others do too.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

<P><FONT face="Comic Sans MS" color=#0000ff>Kevins medical records have been sent to the cf clinic and we are waiting to hear from them. They said they would evaluate him and call with the decision? I guess that means not all are able to get into the clinic? Anyway, it has been a couple of weeks yet and we haven't heard anything????</FONT></P>

keep bugging the the clinic. thats the only way alot of people get anywhere in medical systems. often people are forgotten about or staff just dont understand the urgency.

now i dont want to start a religion this that thread but i too find it offensive when someone speaks down to me because im not religious. i dont consider myself to be anything [not even an athiest]. why? its just because religion has never been an aspect in my families life, its not important to us and we are not suffering or lost because of this. not to mention australia isnt a very religious country and you are bound to get strange looks if you say 'i will pray for ____'. i know you are going through a hard time pam but a simple 'i will believe what i want and you can to' would do instead of calling them lost souls otherwise it just adds fuel to the fire. remember to bug that clinic.

With all due respect....

it is your belief whether you "live" it or not.

you would be offended if i decided to "pray to my gods" for your lost christian soul so please do not offend those of us who dont share your beliefs. keep your religious opinions to yourself. people on here are trying to help you, dont insult them.

I quite agree. Whether or not we believe what you do, we're all trying to help you concerning your brother here. Calling those of us who don't believe in god lost souls is extremely condescending, and uncalled for.
