My Child Resemble a Salt Lick

We were told by the CF center to add 1/8 of a teaspoon of salt to Ben's formula. We make a batch for the day and mix it in. Then we measure out 8 ounce bottles from the batch. He is almost 4 mths. He does sweat an obscene amount (we live in Florida so it is always hot) the second he starts to get hot look out because he is going to scream! We try to keep everything as cool as possible and not take him out in the afternoon when it is really hot out.

thanks all for your help! i just felt weird not giving it to him, so i prepared my own solution to give 6 times a day. i probably should pre-make formula, but so far the bit i add to his baby food w/enzymes seems to work. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

i will keep the other suggestions in mind in case he starts spitting that out too.

I remember how frustrating and challenging it was to get my little one to consume salt. After about a week of trying we were finally able to get him to take salt in a bottle with breast milk, about 1/8th teaspoon in at least 2 ounces of milk. I tried other things to but this is what worked for us.
good luck

DS is pretty good about taking salt --though we have to watch him in restaurants, so he doesn't LICK those. When he was 6 months old, his doctor recommended skipping baby food and grinding up whatever we were eating because baby food was low in sodium and fat. However, for convenience sake and because he liked it -- I would feed him baby food meats, veggies, mac & cheese, but add salt and olive oil/ butter.

Also, I would carry baby white grape juice in my diaper bag along with fruit for snacks that didn't require enzymes. Usually during those LONG clinic appointments. Those baby bottles of juice were great 'cuz I could just take the lid off and put a regular bottle nipple on it for a convenient snack. I didn't give him a lot of juice due to concerns with bottle rot. But it would get extra calories in him and not ruin his appetite for meals.
