Thank you everyone. I will look into your suggestions.
By the way, usually the "cash cost" ends up being alot more than the price the insurance actually pays because of the "contracted rates" they have negotiated with providers. It is always worth neogiating if you are paying cash.

You have all been so helpful over the past few weeks. I hope one day I can return the favor."

Just a thought: My son is has never used a nebulizer. He uses a spacer (or puffer) when he needs albuterol. It's a mask on the end of a tube. It only takes 6 breaths to clear it (as oppsed to how ever many minutes a nebulizzer takes). Our clinic gave it to us for free. It is super easy. He doesn't like it, but when he cries it just goes deeper into his lungs!

Thank you for this. The CF clinic gave us a bear with its own mask to play. So, my daughter will give the bear its treatments, but still won't do it herself. Hopefully in a few days or so we will at least get her to put her face up to the mask. It's a life long treatment, so I am trying to pleasantly get her used to it instead of forcing her into it. However, she is VERY stubborn, so we'll see what happens.

If she is afraid to put the mask over her nose and mouth, she may be more willing to use the mouthpiece instead... she might feel a bit more controlled that way, being able to put it in her mouth and holding the little handle, instead of covering a big part of her face.

We never used the elastic band with the mask when DS was a baby as he didn't like it pulling on his hair. So one of us would hold the mask to his face.

You could show her how the machine can blow up a balloon for her at the end of each treatment if she'll do the treatment...a reward system. Also you could do a sticker chart for each time she is agreeable.

I love that idea, LouLou! I can't believe I never thought of that when Andrew was little!

Sticker charts worked well with Emily too. Never tried the balloon trick!
