I was diagnosed when I was 4. I was in the docters office on average every other month with what the docter said was upper resperatory and was sent home on oral antibiotics. So Id be at the babysitters house every morning coughing up mucus and my mom thought all along that it was just upper resperatory infections. I was a very sick baby. I became short of breath so we were once again in the docters office and he sent us for x-rays which showed pnemonia in both my lungs. He admitted me to the hospital and they were going over all my symptoms and one of thenursessuggested to do a sweat chloride test and thats when they found out I had CF. When we were at the hospital a docterfrom Riley Hospital who specializes in CF talked to my mom and dad about the disease and what they might expect. After that every time I got sick we would drive 2 hours to Rriley Hospital for IV treatmeant which happened about every 3 months. I went back a fourth to Riley for 5 years when at that time the docters didnt know what else to do for me cause I continued to get sick so often. The docter said that this is just how its going to be for the rest of her life. My parents werent going to take that news for their9 year old daughter so they went searching for a new docter for me. They found a docter here in Fort Wayne at Lutheran Hospital and shes done great in helping me stay healthier and now I only get admitted about 2 times a year. The scariest thing thats happened to me so far is when I was almost 10 I got a bacteria that ate through my lung and made an abcess. They put me on IV antibiotics..talked about surgery to remove that part of the lung where the abcess was and even telling my parents to enjoy their days with me cause they didnt know if I would make it. Thankfully a little over a year of IVs later the abcess was gone.

Hi,
What made you get so much better that you went from admissions to the hospital every 3 months to 2x a year? :)
I was a little bit confused by your post at first because in your first sentence you say that you were diagnosed when you were 41/2, but you're only 15. Hehe.

Take care!
