Ok a question for all of you not in New Zealand, which will be pretty much everybody I imagine <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

I have successfully over the last year or so, managed to flick my immune response to favour TH1 rather than TH2 and have pretty much stopped my cepacia being much of an issue, but as expected my Pseudomomonas are not becoming a real pain in the proverbial with one infection after another.

Is anybody with Mucoid Pseudos on oral antibiotics all the time for maintenance? If so, which ones, at what doses and do they work - as in prevent so many exacerbations requiring IV treatments?

Also, as we don't have TOBI down here in the butthole of the world, we use IV Tobra for inhalation but i understand TOBI is a very high concentration, so if anyone over there has nebulised the IV Tobra before, how much did you neb, how much did you dilute it and how often did you neb it? Month on month off? Twice daily?

Did it work to maintain the pseudo levels to a manageable level?

I apologize in advance as I know this will sound like it has nothing to do with what you asked. But I am going to very loosely reinterpret your question to be "Does anyone know of anything that might help me cope effectively with my PA infection and also be available down here in NZ?"

In answer to that (perhaps imaginary) question, this information might interest you (assuming you haven't seen it already):

Good luck.

I know this doesn't help you at the moment, but if inhaled Aztreonam ever makes it to market, it got rid of my PA for a year and a half. Too bad I don't have access to it anymore.

Hi Kat,

Are you on Azithromycin? I think it's supposed to break down the biofilm on muciod PA and make abx more effective. Could be wrong, but if we have it in Aus. you probably have it there too.
