When we pulled him off the vent yesterday, they put him on the Mask. He fought like hell...but things were not going well. I stayed with him the whole time and together we gave it one hell of a shot. Damn, I have never been so proud of anyone in my life. Mike started getting really tired, and all of the signs were there that things were not going to be ok. I made sure they gave him a ton of sedation and pain medication and Mike passed peacefully late yesterday afternoon.
Although it is tough to realize I will not see him here anymore. I know in my heart Mike can finally breathe without a hundred pills a day and no breathing treatments.
Yesterday I did not tell him good bye, I told him I would see him later and that I would still talk to him often because I know he will always be here with me.
Thanks to all of your for your support and understanding over the last year. Mike's CF docs and Nurses were there yesterday, they too were very upset to see Mike go. Mike's CF doc was crying yesterday. But I reminded him to keep fighting the good fight, and we wouldn't have made it this far without him. I plan to donate most of Mike's Medications to the CF clinic to help some other families who don't have insurance and are having a hard time, as we have before. If you know someone on here I would be happy to send to them (in the US) as well.
My head is still going around in circles, but just taking one minute at a time and today is a new day. Little bro if your listening...I'll always love you and will miss you.
