GBS is group beta strep bacteria. + is positive for it and - is negative.

UPDATE - He's here! His name is Azriel and he was almost 8 lbs, 20 inches long. He's nursing well and everyone is fine. She did end up transferring to the hospital this afternoon while still in labor but it wasn't an emergency. I don't know the whole story.

Considering her first son was 3 lbs 4 oz and born at 33 weeks, this is a world of difference for her! I'm just so proud of her.

Just in case anyone cares - I talked to my SIL tonight and found out why they didn't break her water at home. Baby never descended into her pelvis so breaking her water with him floating like that could have resulted in cord prolapse. I guess whenever they broke it at the hospital he had descended some. Either way, she did about 40 hours of labor and pushed out an 8 lb baby drug free. He was born at 6:45 tonight. She is going home tomorrow morning.

Oh and talk about a small world - the midwife was also the midwife that delivered my brother in law at home 25 years ago. MIL and midwife met tonight at the hospital and realized it. Of course it was the same city and all but still.

Congrats Auntie Caroline!

Oh, I've heard of group B strep, I just never saw it abbreviated like that before. I was negative, but I was unaware there's anything you can actually "do" to ensure you're negative.
