My Step Sister.....

Hi Guys,

Crumby day....My step sister was just diagnoised with thyroid cancer..She is only 26 years old.. I can't believe it.....We don't know if their is lymph node involvement yet. I am going with her to the doctor tomorrow, and we have to schedule surgery to get the tumor removed, and also her thyroid has to come out.

My poor parents are going to have a melt down....I stress them out so much with my health..that I think this was the straw on the camels back... I am of course seen as the family expert because I have medical experience which is a joke........ I don't know a lot about thyroid cancer though, just that it has a high cure rate if it didn't spread to the lymph system.

Please keep my sister and my parents in your thoughts/prayers........

Thanks, I do have a lot of faith...so that does help me.... It is the strangest feeling for me to be on the other end of worrying about someone... It is like when it is me, I don't stress about it at all, but when it is someone I love, OH man.. It really stinks...

My father said something really strange to me, and I don't know how to take it, I just spent the last few hours with them, explaining tests and procedures, researching information, and talking to my step sister..and calming my parents down...

I finally said I had to go, I have homework I have to do, I am going to clincal in the morning and just leaving early to go with my sister to the doctors.. so I have a lot of work to do, anyway, I am sitting here doing my work, and my dad came in and said, You see how stressed I am? It is a hundred times worse for me when you are sick....I go out of my mind when you are in the hospital....I can't deal with it...

How am I supposed to take that??? I feel so gulity as it is ALL The time for the stress that my parents are under. I am sitting here with my head spinning....How could me being in the hospital be worse than a DX of cancer? and what can I do about it???

Gosh I have such a knot in my stomach. I already felt like before that I was sending my dad into early signs of dementia because he is so stressed he can't remember things...

Just had to vent....

Jen I am so sorry to hear about your sister, so sorry! I'm sure this doesnt help right now, but it always its rock bottom before it starts to get better. I will surely be praying for her!! Hopefully I will have good news in 2 weeks that you are an online auntie <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

And your dads comment, as strange as it might be, I REALLY think he was trying to tell you that he loves you and is concerned about you and cares about you (not much you can do about being in the hospital though). I just think he really cares.

I'm so sorry to hear about your step sister.The word Cancer is scary , but cure rates in most cases are exellent.
Also make sure you look after yoursel.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Anyway, Jen i hope you don't mind me asking(you don't have to answer this) but how was your step sister diagnosed. Did she feel ill and wet to the doc's for a check up. How did they stumble accros the cancer?
