The genetic counselor at my CF clinic told me that my daughter is a gauranted gene carrier of the same gene mutation I have. There is 0% chance of her having CF itself because we had her Dad tested & he is not a known carrier plus the fact that he is black decreases the chances even more should it be an undetected gene. I dont know what the miscommunication is, but this is from someone who is use to explaning the genetics to people not familiar with the makeup of CF & how it works so I trust my Genetic Counselor 100%.

No one ever has a 0% chance of having a child with CF, even with a negative carrier test. If someone gets the standard test, it reduces the chance to be a carrier (if they are Caucasian with not family history) to 1 in 240. This is my fiancee's risk. Therefore, we have a 1 in 480 chance to have a child with CF (1/2 x 1/240)

Jennifer, I am not sure where you got your information, but it is inaccurate. Being that you DO HAVE CF, your child will 100% be a carrier, 100%. Whether or not your child will acutally have CF (2 genes) will be dependent on your husbands carrier status. As far as the 10%, if your husband is a carrier, your child has a 50% chance of being JUST a CARRIER and a 50% chance of actually having CF. If your husband is NOT a carrier-as you stated, your child has a 100% chance of being a carrier. I just want to make sure you are well informed before you start your family.
