NAC Question

Gina,
Thank you for the reply and the info about NAC, as well as how to do a PM. I hope your daughter stabilizes soon and you get to see some improvements from the NAC. I also hope she likes the twigs :) My kids like Zaatar...well, the youngest uses it mainly as a form of playdough actually.

Nightwriter,
I remember our previous conversation well! I am still meaning to try a Zumba class :) I have picked a gym, but have not yet forked over the $$ to join it. I am waiting to see how I do jogging in cold weather. My right knee, which I had surgery on 10 yrs ago, is popping and hurting unless I wear sneakers 24/7. So, I am basically in denial that I even should be jogging. I saw an orthopedist and he said that I should stick to swimming, the elliptical machine, and biking. Old dog, new tricks. Hurmph.

I am sorry about your ulcer. It is true that anything in excess is harmful and too little is ineffective. It is so hard to figure out the right dose, not to mention deal with how it might interact with other stuff we take.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I also read a lot about NAC and antibiotics. The insert in my NAC says to take it 2 hrs away from gentimycin. It has a canceling effect. I take it two hours away from any abx to be safe.

Thank you for the turmeric brand and dosing info--gotta love that lead issue.

I hope you like the Zaatar. It is not bitter, though you do have to floss sometimes after eating it. Hey, that's a benefit right there since I almost never floss otherwise!

Random tangent--I know you are interested in dust, small-particle pollution...etc.
My vacuum cleaner broke again (husband fixes it every six months or so, but it is now fiiinito). One friend recommended I replace it with a Miele, another suggested the Kenmore Blue-something. So I googled and compared. Check out this you tube video!!

</a>It seems like a scam in the vacuum industry. They put in a HEPA filter, but don't make an airtight canister, so dusty air is coming out the sides anyway. I am such a loser; I spent two hours watching vacuum videos and reading research and reviews.
BTW, the vacuum in the video costs $849. And with my couple of wool, high pile area rugs, it is the one I would need. Down one level is $679 The Pisces, which I guess I could muscle around the living room. I have had two vacuums in seven years that together cost $400! But in all likelihood they were spraying crap right back at me.
What do you think?

Hi Melissa,

Did you actually get me to watch a video on vacuum cleaners? Then the madness continued. I watched a second vacuum video purely by choice. But then to break the spell I watched Tina Fey/Amy Poehler's video as Palen/Clinton. So now I'm back to normal.

But I must answer your ponderings about vacuums. I believe that Miele is a really great vacuum. I bought my vacuum, a Nilfisk about 8 years ago, maybe more. And I kinda remember it was between a Nilfisk or a Miele. My doctor ordered the Nilfisk for me. My only compaint was that I thought the Nilfisk always had an odor. And recently the odor was getting stronger. I called the company and they said a bag could've broken (it did) and that what was the smell was from. It has a lot of filters (an ULPA...Like a HEPA) so they told me to replace the cheap filter, vacuum the main filter (with what???), not to buy the expensive ULPA replacement and put down baking soda, and vacuum it up. Sounded a bit odd.

When I asked my doctor, she told me to replace all the filters, because the expensive vacuum companies don't encourage needed changings, because you'll get annoyed at replacing expensive filters. Anyway, I replaced the cheap filter, had my boyfriend use an air compressor on the main filter blowing everything off, and before buying an expensive ULPA replacement -- tried it, and no smell. Isn't this all fascinating?

Anyway, the Miele and the Nilfisk vacuums are really good -- you are paying a lot because the dust and exhaust do not come back at you. I don't ever believe informercials (I loved the "assistant" throwing down rice. Like the guy couldn't do it himself) but I knew about these brands a long time ago and considering that I did buy a better vacuum, I think it's a good idea. I would buy the one that is suitable for your rugs unless the only difference between the 2 models is that it's easier to push.

In exchange for your Zataar tip, I offer you a tip. If you go do go jogging (against all your better judgement) try wearing a mask in cold weather. The cold constricts airways and irritate your lungs. You can wear a silk mask which is easy to breath through. By the way, I also have knee issues which have improved some (not entirely), I take glucosomine chondroitin MSM, Zyflamend, fish oil, and strength training exercise actually helped me a lot. When your leg muscles get stronger, it helps take the stress off the knees. Then you can Zumba too.

Glad I could infect you with some of my loser-tendencies :) If I spend $850 on my next vacuum cleaner, I may make a youtube video too! I had SNL recorded and watched it last night to get back some coolfactor--loved the Palin/Clinton skit.

Thanks for the mask in cold weather advice. I'll give it a go. Scarves seem to be coming back in style this season anyway, so I had already dug out mine and washed them.

My dad gave me a mask that he didn't end up using when he was in China a year ago. I have used it a couple times. For example, last weekend cleaning out my attic. I also was smart enough during this home-upheaval project to call it quits after a few hours and spend the rest of the day outside or in my living room.

Thanks for the joint supplement info too--perfect timing: this weekend, I had my very first hand arthritis episode...either that or someone slammed my knuckles with a baseball bat when I wasn't looking.
