NAC taste

As part of starting to be more proactive about CF I am finally trying NAC. I received it a couple days ago and am going to start it tomorrow. Here is my problem.

I have heard it tastes terrible and I have a bad gag reflex. I can't even have carbonation without spitting it back up. I have tried for years to fix this but can't. What do you all put it in to kill the taste? I thought about apple juice because it isn't something I have a lot of. I don't want to ruin some of the few things I do drink by putting the tablet in it.

Thanks a lot!

Did you get PharmaNAC? It's not the best tasting, but it's not horrendous either - little grape like flavor.

I agree about carbonation - I have always hated it too. In fact, when I get my OGTT every year, I have to drink the stupid cola stuff by looking up at the cieling and drinking so in case I throw it up, I can swallow it back down (they make you start ALL OVER AGAIN if you puke up any of the sugar cola stuff).

I really didn't like Mandy's green smoothies either at first (until I got my recipes down), but I just treat it like medicine and try to just chug.

To me it helps with NAC to have room temp water - chilled water makes it worse

Try nose clips? sometimes its the combination of the smell and taste. When I started Inhaled Fortaz I had to do this, I eventually got it to the point I didn't need them anymore.

The OGTT is the worst! When I first did it the receptionist told me I could drink water to get through it because otherwise I couldn't do it. Then, after I finished, I was told that water ruined the test so I had to come back the next day and do it again! I did get the pharmaNAC. Do you think water is better than apple juice to try it in? I am going to start it today.

Joni I am pretty sure that the capsules are not as effective. If you do a search or look on Amys blog I think she explains why. I would love to take a pill!

Hi! I ordered PharmaNAC for my 14 yo daughter w/ CF and received it today. She had one tablet in water around noon and didn't mind the taste at all. Does anyone know the recommended dose for CF patients in order to see the best results? Thanks!

I've been taking PharmaNAC for years on and off and I do believe it helps me alot. The taste doesn't bother me. I don't love it, but its not the worst thing out there.
The only problem is it tears up my digestive system-gives me awful gas and bowel pain. So what do I do? I'm really torn on this one. I did it faithfully for 6 weeks, and saw a pretty big improvement. But it was 6 weeks of bowel pain...so annoying. Am I the only one this happens to?
