Nafcillan Questions

Hi everyone...hope you're all enjoying your weekend.

Well, after 3 oral antibiotics and my infection returning within days (culture again shows Staph A), we did the PICC line this past week and I will be on IV Nafcillan for at least two weeks and oral Bactrin (sp?) twice a day.

I don't recall ever having taken Nafcillan in the past. I was researching on the internet (sometimes a good source of info, sometimes not - I know), but found a couple of articles that Nafcillan is becoming the only effect antibiotic against Staph A. Has anyone heard anything about this or know where I might be able to get additional info? Also, if my staph becomes resistant to this, are there other drugs or combination of drugs that can be effective? Everytime I have had pneumonia it has always been a Staph caused pneumonia. I don't have MRSA, but if I became resistant to Nafcillan, would my staph then become MRSA? I'm not sure how all of this works...still learning.

Was also wondering for those of you who have been on it...did it make you incredibly sleepy? I am so sleepy and tired...I don't know how I am going to make it through the workday on Monday!

On a seperate note, still no Ambry results for my sister, but I'll post when they come in.

Thanks....

Amy
