Personally, I type a lot, and long nails would just slow me down anyway.

I laughed at this because I have had my acrylic nails for so long that I cant type WITHOUT them. As to the bacteria growing.....no ?? it would be an issue. I mean c'mon.....a bit of common sense there. I have had colonized PA for at least half my life if not longer so I dont worry about it anymore.

I am very careful about keeping my nails clean tho. OCD about it. Doesnt mean there are bacteris growing, but they look clean and pretty!

I really like this post- interesting...I've never had acrylic nails yet, something zoe4life said about the animals caught my attention. What animals did you get rid of? And what animals would be risky to have?

Thanks!

Normal hand washing with acrylic nails does not get rid of viruses/bacteria on hands as well as with natural nails. That's the bottom line.

So whether you're concerned about the frequency you catch colds, picking up MRSA at the gym, picking up e. coli from changing a baby's diaper, or not picking up a new strain of PA at your next doctor's visit, the CDC says acrylic nails are a bad idea .

many doctors offices are forcing their nurses to remove them because nurses are exposing patients to bacteria (even after washing hands well).

"Do not wear artificial fingernails or extenders when providing patient care" is a Category 1A recommendation of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Category 1A recommendations are "strongly recommended for implementation and strongly supported by well-designed experimental, clinical or epidemiologic studies."

Do you worry about picking up new strains that may have different suseptabilities to various classes of antibiotics?
