Naps

I have been kind of puzzled the past few weeks. I have had the overwhelming urge to take a nap about 4-5 days out of the week for the past two weeks. I have never been much of a nap taker, but have been laying down and catching some zzzs in the middle of the day lately.
I would normally be worried - because the last time this happened I had a partially collapsed lung, but I know that is not the case. I have had xrays - which are improving - in the past 2 weeks and had my O2 sats checked several times and they are at 96. I just didn't know if this is a common thing amongst CFers the urge to nap.

I don't really do much before the urge to nap hits me either just hanging around the house and doing some minor housework or going to the post office and grocery store type stuff.

Oh well .. just thought I would see how common it is. I will say I feel very rested, but am just wondering why I am getting tired so frequently. I know it is not my blood sugar cause I have been checking it frequently and it seems to be under control when I am checking it.

I will check this again tomorrow.
Night All,
Lindsey

How bizarre. I have been taking naps these past couple of month too. I have never been a "napper", but this past month, it just seems that I have been more tired than usual and don't have a lot of energy. If I sit down on the couch, I seem to get very heavy-eyed and have to take a nap. One night I laid down on the couch to catch a quick nap and it ended up being a 3 hour nap!! Yikes. I know I don't get as much sleep as I should (average about 6 hours a night-more on the weekends). My sister has been tired a lot too lately. Maybe it is just a CF thing, but I don't know for sure. Do you sleep through the night or does your breathing keep you from getting a good nights sleep? Hope this helps you.

When I began to get sick, before my lungs really start showing signs, I start sleeping more and eating less. Thats how I know when something is coming before it hits me. Kinda like my body's way of sending up red flags that something isnt right and to look out.

However, if I have a rough day at work or go out and run errands (specially if it is hot and humid outside) I get tired easy and need naps.

Lindsey, I was thinking that with these longer days we are now
having, from spring into now summer that maybe you  are
being more active then you were in the winter months. I now am
getting up earlier and going to bed later and come afternoon I wish
I could nap....but if I do then I will not get up again for the
rest of the day so I don't and then the urge to nap passes.
Maybe your days are just longer now and  that is why you
need an afternoon siesta.  What happens if you are out of your
home for the entire day?  Do you manage fine?

I tend to take cat naps during the warm weather. I think for me it is allergy related. Is this a possibility for you? It could also be that you are more active & need that rest! I wouldnt worry about it unless there are other symptoms!

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Do you sleep through the night or does your breathing keep you from getting a good nights sleep?
~Allisa</end quote></div>

Somen nights yes some nights no. It depends on how my cat feels. He has a tendency to walk around and cry at about 4am - and 5 am and 6 am some nights. That sometimes wakes me up but it is very hit or miss. Also same thing as you mentioned when I sit on the couch and watch TV boom it hits me .. I need to sleep lol.

Danyell -I thought the same thing about me beginning to get sick but I just got out of the hospital and just finished all the oral meds he had me on 2 days ago, so I am thinking that is not it <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">.

I never even thought of that. It is entirely possibe. If I am out all day I usually do just fine I normally don't get tired unless I am at home and sitting down on the couch or kicking back in the bed to read or whathave you.

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>I think for me it is allergy related. Is this a possibility for you?

It is possible, but I don't know. I have never had a bad time with allergies, but I have noticed I am sneezing more this year being outside and my nose is getting runny more often, along with my eyes itchy. Once again didn't think to contribute it to allergies, but it is a possiblity as well. I was actually thinking of getting an allergy pill from my doc the next time I go cause the runny nose thing is making me cough more often, but who knows.

Thanks all for the input. I will have to get an over the counter decongetsant/antihistamine/allergy pill and see if that helps. If it does then maybe that is all my problem is. Thanks again and have a great day.

Normally I prefer to sleep about 10-11 hours a night or even more, if I don't get that amount of sleep I definitly try to get a nap in but I usually can't because I am out.

Naps are a good thing...

I would check your glucose. When I get tired it is usually a sign that my glucose is elevated. I am boarderline Diabetic and if I overdo the carbs, I feel like I need a nap. Not a good thing for me. That is a sign I need to workout more or watch my carb intake. I am sure you will find the answer out soon. Could it be that you are more congested and once you get your therapy you feel more energized? I remember that would happen to me years before my transplant. I would feel like going to sleep then I would have a treatment and then instantly transformed. Breathing well increased my oxygen. Perhaps get a sat monitor and see what your sats are when you are tired. Just some info for you to ponder. Maybe you are low in iron? Take care, Risa

I nap all the time..err...sometimes at my desk <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0"> I have always
figured that my body is working harder than most even in it's
relaxed state so It makes sense to me that it need a 15-20 minute
recharge.  If I'm at home it's more like 30-45 minutes. I
think I actually feel better and stay healthier when I get my naps,
i don't think I get so run down.<br>
<br>
Also, if your cat is disturbing you at 4 or 5 am I think that's
during one of your most important sleep cycles, which would cause
you to be tired later - I think......(bad kitty <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">) And once i read
this article on "sleep debt" and it said that people
think they can get by on a few hours if they miss a few winks as
long as they make it through the day and then get a good nights
sleep.  But that your body knows it's been robbed and is
keeping a running debt and that is how you can end up sleeping away
a Saturday because your body demands back payment to your sleep
account.  I don't know if thats true but I thought it was
interesting.<br>
<br>
Well this is a long way of saying..yes, I'm a napper.  And I
don't think there's anything wrong with that.

I am a napper!
I can sleep whenever.. . i dont know if its the CF or just me.

When i get sick and am at school i will take hard core naps of like a few hours and then be able to sleep fine at night too. I just figure my body need the extra rest cause it is using a little more energy to breath then everyone elses.

Yes, I am a napper. I usually take a nap almost everyday while CAmbree naps. It can be a sign for me that I am getting sick, but since I have had the baby I nap a lot. Yes, she is 2 so I have gotten a lot of naps in in the past 2 years.

Recently however, I was taking 2 hour naps which was very unusual and had no energy at all. I finally found out it is because I have an underactive thyroid and have to be on medicine. I only take 45 min. naps now and on days that I don't get a chance I am still doing okay.

Sometimes I take them if I am only slightly tired. If I am really tired I usually go to sleep fully. Are any of you the same? I'm not sure if i'm unusual or not.
