Well, Nathan is being admitted this morning to TCH. We thought he had a virus or strep throat but the cough is so bad and the temp is really hard to control. Plus according to his PIKO his FEV1 is at 62%, all new low for him. I know, he had an all new low last time to but it was only in the low 80's so this really is down. I am hoping it isn't the Mycobacterium Abscessus, but in my heart I think that is exactly what it is this time. I guess we will know in 6 or so weeks when the culture comes back, that is the bad thing, it takes so long to get that culture back. I suppose if the treatment works we will know sooner but won't be positive until the cultures are back.
I will update when I know more.
OH YEAH, anyone want to guess what week it is for me again? If you guessed Finals you would be correct. Great timing as usual. Oh well, this is like the 4th time so it shouldn't have any negative effects on my grades, I'm pretty use to it now.
Monday: The Influenza A is Negative but the RSV is positive. All other cultures are still pending. His PFT's came up significantly today but they are still not talking any discharge dates in the near future. I know, we just got here on Saturday but I prefer to do these things at home when possible, and more importantly, Nathan prefers to be at home. I am hoping for Friday after my finals and last clinic are finished and Spring Break begins, I will have 9 days off to help him with treatments and IV's. Am I the only one or does everyone hate waiting for cultures as much as I do? I should be use to the wait, but I sure do hate it. I always want answers and want them NOW not later. Patients is a Virtue, a virtue I don't have apparently. I'll let you all know if anything changes for the worse or we have a plan. Patty
PS: TCH for us = The Children's Hospital in Aurora, CO
Thanks! I should have clarified that, I know that every state has a Children's. Its so nice to know that there are people willing to help and be supportive! You guys are the BEST!
