Natural Therapies

Salli, sorry my DH's email is tjp1014@yahoo.com. ooops

As for inhaled GSH, it is not an FDA approved therapy and your CF docs won't recommend it because the CFF hasn't handed down a study and "official" recommendation. This is a bit foggy due to it being a natural substance and not something that can be patented by a pharm company. Many people feel this is one of the most beneficial therapies available and there are clinical studies done on dosage and benefits, just not ones recognized by the big guys. Lots of discussion about natural therapies and clinical studies happens, but we are still left to sort it out ourselves for the most part. There is actuallly a little more research supporting inhaled versus the oral as it goes directly where it is needed. There is a problem with the CFTR transporting it out of the cells...Tom can inform you more than I can on this one.

All I know is he is doing well, little mucus, clears colds well, increased appetite and weight gain since being on GSH.

Holly, great info on the Neti Pot and oil. I had never heard of that one and was thinking of "training" him on one next season if he'll let me. I've heard alot of stuff starts in the sinuses and feed the lungs...make sense to have a daily routine to flush them out and protect them. I have alot of sinus issues seasonally, so I might try it as well. Are you sure we aren't sisters from another life?

Hope this helps...again this is what we feel comfortable doing since he cultured pseudo and he has had clear cultures since. I know what you mean about always researching...I think it is only natural especially at first to go through everything...then we get a bit more comforatable in their ability to be strong and healthy like everyone else as they come out of the baby year. At least I feel that way as he has done so well this year...thank the heavens! My only recommendation is to add things very slowly so you can track the benefits or any negative shifts and reallly know what things are helping. I think as a mom we can want to do everything when maybe less is more.

Warmly,
Jody
