Neb cleaning question/replacement question?

I've ordered online from american allergy -- didn't need a prescription, just paid out of pocket, didn't submit to insurance. Also bought filters and a bubbles mask. We got our nebulizer while DS was in the NICU and the local medical supply company doesn't carry pari nebulizers and weren't much help.

I also get a backpack full of freebies from the RT at our CF clinic. Last time we went in for an office call and DS had a culture done at his office, he asked if we needed anything. We've gotten a lot of paris and some odd brands, too.

Also, when we got our tobi from the CF Services pharmacy, we could get a nebulizer every other order, too.

Only a few months ago I was wondering all the same things you are. I called my CF nurse and tld her I wanted to figure out which kind of nebs (reusable) to buy so that i could boil them without worry of them melting. She sent me 1 Pari LC set and 2 Devibiss Sidestreams to try out. I prefer the Pari, but the sidestreams were fine too! Both are fine for Xopenex or Albuterl, but for Tobi and perhaps other meds I believe you need to use the Pari. Talk to your CF nurse or RT, they should be able to get you some so that if you decide to buy more you will know what you are doing. AFter using the Pari, I purchased 2 more and some of the bubbles masks (I melted one badly) online without a prescription, though I'm sure if I needed one our CF center would take care of that too.

Please ask all the questions you have, not only can someone help you -- but perhaps there is someone NOT asking the questions that can be helped too!!!

When DS was diagnosed, we pretty much had the same questions. I hate having to worry about stupid little things like this -- jumping thru hoops just to find out where to get neb cups. Annoys me 'cuz things just shouldn't be this hard.

DS was diagnosed in the City, 250 miles from home and they sent us home with a pari proneb compressor, which came with a neb cup. When I called the local medical supply company, which is part of our local hospital, local CF clinic, they weren't much help. Basically told me they don't carry those type of compressors, if it needed to be serviced or if we needed medical equipment -- filters, neb cups, masks, we'd have to call our doctor who would write a prescription -- was so overwhelmed at the time and it sounded like way too much trouble, I just searched the net and ordered some online.

A few months later the RT at the local clinic gave us a backpack full of neb cups, etc. Now if I have questions, I just call the head RT at the CF clinic. Last time it had to do with getting our Devilbiss compressor serviced (I bought it online) 'cuz the medical supply company doesn't carry those anymore and they'd have to send it out for repairs. Thank goodness it was still under warranty and the company just sent us a replacement.

Thanks for the help!!! I ordered the Pari Plus neb last night-just paid out of pocket for it at the website suggested by Liza. However, I will see about getting an RX for it at clinic on Thursday.

I also purchase the Pari LC nebs out of pocket through American Allergy Supply. Also, check out the CFF website on how to clean the nebs and which nebs go with which medicine. Every once in awhile I look over this info to note any changes and sometimes for a refresher to make sure that I am not missing anything. There is a whole section labeled "Living with Cystic Fibrosis". It has a lot of good info!
