My 8 yr. old started albuterol when he was about 1 1/2 months old. He had a lot of tummy issues with surgeries and such in the beginning so they waited.

My 3 yr. old started on albuterol right away. I guess it was up to the doctors as to when they felt it was time to start. I know with both of them it was started as a preventative. Hope this helps.

Neither one of my girls were started that young. Kayla never used a neb until she was 5 years old (dx at 14 mnths)and that was for a round of Tobi. Since she was 8, she has nebbed pulmozyme on a reg basis, once in a great while albuterol (if any wheezing/chest tightness) and has now had about 6 rounds of Tobi.

Hannah was dx at 1 month, and a few times her first year nebbed albuterol. She is on no reg. nebs now, and she will be 9 in a few months. She has been on about 6 rounds of nebbed Tobi as well.

I really like the fact that our doctor doesn't put them on things unless he feels it is really a neccessity. Hannah even ASKED him to use pulmozyme (when she was younger) because she wanted to be like her big sister<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> But he said she didn't need it and told her maybe one day she will, but not yet.
I am sure each doctor is different.
