hi momtana. i dont no to much about hypertonic saline. all i no is that in studies, patients in Australia who surf regular have better lung function because of the salt water inhaled while on the beach or surfing. The salt water thins the mucus and loosens it. Some one on this site told me they use 10% sodium chloride with 0.9%. inhale 4mls for 15mins.

does saline have the same effect as Pulmozyme?

if so, it's a lot less expensive!</end quote></div>

It produces the same result, easier to cough up stuff, but does it in different ways. Pulmo breaks down the DNA while HS hydrates and gets under the mucus so the cylia can work.

Pulmozyme and HTS do not work in the same way.

HTS draws water out of the cells into the airways. the water gets under the mucus, elevates the mucus above the cilia so that they cilia can beat and move the mucus out of the lungs.

Pulmozyme literally digests the mucus to make it thinner and thereby less viscus and easier to cough up.

They are two totaly different meds that do two totaly different things.
