Nebulizer cleaning question

you'd know they were Pari because it says Pari on the packaging and the product itself. get 'em! they're the best. I have heard the sidestream is also good but I don't know anything about that product because I use Pari LC Plus exclusively - I have 20 of them I I only have to wash/sterilize once to twice a week!

Just a question-do you guys use a different compressor for each
med.? Like one for tobi, one for albuterol, one for
pulmozyme,etc.?
I only use one for all, I use different tubing for each of course
but this comp. is getting older(2000 model) and I don't know how
much longer it'll keep going.
Any opinions would be great!
I also boil my daughters Pari LC Plus nebs in the microwave in a bowl of water (obviously water...). We also have one Sidestream, which has held up fine in this situation. All of the others that we had melted when I tried to do it that way. They (the others) held up fine in a basket ran through the dishwasher, which is ok to do according to the packaging, but not when boiled in the microwave. Ours get washed and sterilized a lot because I only have enough to make it through 1 1/2 days with the two girls both on Tobi right now.
I am sure that you also know that not all meds can be used with all nebs. Or at least not all are recommended/approved to be used with all meds. I did not know this until about three months ago. My daughters really never needed anything but albuterol in the nebs (and that was when they were little, like 7 years ago), until one started Pulmozyme in May and now both are on Tobi. I learn something new all the time Just like, until I read this thread, I never thought about using sterilzers for baby bottles. I didn't have one when my girls were babies, so I never thought about!

I don't used a different compressor, but as I said above, I do use different neb cups. We do have three different compressors, for what reason, I guess I have never questioned why they sent us different ones. I don't switch out the tubing, but maybe I should?!

Good questions(s)!

Our med equip people told us to boil or use the strerilizing function on our dishwasher. Not all dishwashers are certified for sterilization so check yours. Recently I've been wondering about using alcohol to clean the nebs. Anyone heard of/tried this?

Yes, use different nebs for different meds!

Another question I've got is about which kind of nebs to use for what? We just kind of use what we've got laying around. What neb should we be using for what meds?

This area seems to be a bit muddled within the health care profession. I don't think the docs are doing a very good job of keeping up on this. It seems that we know more than they do.

On a side note/vent -- !!</end quote>

Hi Heather, I wanted to comment on your vent. Many of the men who deliver for our company are just as gross, BUT I have never had an issue with the supplies. As long as the guys don't come into contact with my kids or their supplies, I'm ok with it.
Here's a similar story. Every summer we rent a house from a woman who is now on oxygen. She was due to come down when we left and so she had her oxygen supplies sent while we were there. The company sent the tanks, condenser, hoses etc in a FILTY van that looked like they had carried mulch first. There was so much dirt and dust on the stuff I almost told them to take them back (but it wasn't my order- so I kept my mouth shut). We did call our friend to tell her. What are these companies thinking?

That's awful, Jane!! I would not have been happy!!

The thing with yesterday was that the guy DID touch the nebulizer.
He put the whole thing together, touching all the little
parts. I had to sterilize everything before she could use it
the first time -- and it came sterilized in the bag before he put
his grubby hands on it!!
