My 7 month old does Abuterol, Pulmozyme and Pulmicort and CPT twice a day. He started abuterol at 2 weeks and the other 2 he started when he had a chest infection 2 months ago. He has done TOBI once when he cultured PA. Our clinic will not let him do HTS, however I think it could really help him. We are going for another opinion at another clinic next month so will be interesting to see there take on everything. I was told that he must do abuterol, even if showing no symptons.

I was in the same situation. My son was 7 mths old & showing no signs of lung problems. At his clinic I asked the dr if we should be doing more than just enzymes & cpt. He happened to have his first cold that week so they did give us the nebulizer. Just using a low dose of a bronchiodialator. I think it helped him get over his cold. We only use it once daily before his morning cpt. I agree that its better to start getting them used to it now.

Catherine,

You'll probably get various opinions on this. Your best bet (IMO) is to surround yourself with doctors you trust, do your research, and then plan your approach from that. If your doctors feel that preventative albuterol doesn't help at this age, ask if they can show you studies that show this. If you feel good about the research, then I don't see why you should rush into it, but if it isn't founded in research you should try an approach that is.

We've been doing albuterol with my daughter's CPT since she was about 8 months old. They didn't put her on it until her first cough episode. We switched from the neb to an inhaler pretty soon afterwards because she just hated the neb so much. Now we do pulmozyme, but didn't add it until she was 2ish.

Based on what I've read, bronchodialators open the airways to encourage the CPT to move mucous. But my daughter didn't really have a lot of CF mucous as an infant, doesn't have it much now either, so they didn't see the need to sstart albuterol right away.
