Nebulizer Help

We just got Paige's Nebulizer Friday, it's the Pari LC (I believe). We've done 3 treatments so far, and at the end of each treatment, there's always a little medicine left in the bottom of the cup. Is this normal?? She's only taking Albuterol right now, and it's one ampule per treatment.

Also, I'm assuming it's normal for some of the mist to come out before it reaches her face, when doing the mask? (If that makes sense! lol)

AND! (lol) is it CPT's and then Nebs or Nebs then CPT's??

Anyways, as usual, any help will be super appreciated!! Thanks everyone!

Yes, its normal to have a little liquid left. I just run the neb until it doesn't smoke any more and then I shut it off.

As for the order of nebs.... you always want to start with a bronchiodialator (in this case its the albuterol) because it opens ups the airways and makes it easier to get whatever out (assuming she has anything to get out at this point) when you do CPT.

Later on, as you add new meds, you'll want to clarify with the docs when you do what. We were told to do albuterol and then pulmozyme and THEN do the vest, not at the same time. I do think there may be nebs that are done after CPT too....but thankfully we aren't there yet.

Its hard to get that last tiny bit out. I usually stop once the neb is really sputtering. It's ok for that little bit to escape before she inhales it. And you do albuterol to open up the airways, then CPT to move everything around. ALthough at her age, her lungs are pretty healthy and there's prob not much to even clear out. In a time crunch you can even do them at the same time <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Thanks so much! I'm glad I'm not wasting any of her meds. Right now, her lungs are completely clear. We're just doing the CPT's and the Nebs. as a preventative measure; and to help establish a routine. She's culturing Staph regularly now, so hopefully this will help if she develops anything worse. Thanks again ladies!
